Paula Abdul felt “humbled” by the Duchess of Sussex’s recent show of support on social media.

The former Suits actress celebrated the eighth anniversary of her wedding to Prince Harry on Instagram, and Paula was “touched” that the Duchess’ post featured audio of Forever Your Girl, her 1989 single.

Paula, 63, told E! News: “I was in shock and I was so touched.

“I never take anything for granted with my career, I never have. And so, I’m always humbled to have little gems like that appear in my life. It’s very touching.”

Paula actually reached out to the Duchess to share her gratitude.

She said: “I just texted her back, saying, ‘What beautiful pictures and thank you so much for using my song.'”

The Duchess’ post also featured never-before-seen photos from her wedding day in May 2018.

She captioned the images: “Eight years ago today.”

Meanwhile, Paula previously revealed that her own mom was initially bemused by her ambitions in the music business.

The pop star recalled a time when her mom, Lorraine, was “p***** off” about the idea of her launching a music career.

During an appearance on Shawn Stockman’s On That Note podcast, Paula said: “I could hear her say, ‘I can’t believe she’s going to try and make a stupid album.’ Had she not said that, the next thing wouldn’t have happened.”

According to Paula, Lorraine’s assistant overheard their conversation about her landing a record deal and asked to submit a demo written by her boyfriend, “an aspiring songwriter [who’s] studying to be a nuclear physicist”.

She recalled: “Two days later, my mom calls me hysterically laughing on the phone, like crying laughing.

“She goes, ‘Paula, it’s the worst sounding piece of crap I’ve ever heard in my entire life … There are notes being sung that I’ve never even imagined that are even acknowledged or invented … It’s so bad.”

The demo version of Straight Up – Paula’s 1988 hit single – featured “this guy singing completely off-key”. But Paula was convinced the song still had a “magical” element to it.

She said: “They’re laughing at me and looking at me like I’m the craziest person in the freaking world. And I’m laughing with them. I go, ‘I know it sounds awful … but I believe in it, and you guys believe in me.”
