Two schools in Perth’s southeast have been plunged into lockdown amid reports a juvenile was seen carrying an “edged weapon”.
Byford Secondary College and Salvado Catholic College, located in the Byford area, were locked down.
Residents reported hearing sirens blasting through the schools’ PA systems while emergency procedures were enacted.
Students were locked inside classrooms during the incident.
A message sent to parents read: “There is currently a police incident in Byford which means all students are currently in Shelter-in-Place in classrooms. Please DO NOT come onsite until further communication from the College.”
A WA Police spokesman said officers had responded to reports of a juvenile male carrying an “edged weapon” near the premises of a school on Abernathy Rd.
“One male has been apprehended by police and is assisting with inquiries,” a spokesman said.
“There are no reports of any injuries.”
It is understood a weapon has not been located.
