From Cabinet meetings to the 1980s? Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has given himself a retro makeover, courtesy of AI, and the internet seems convinced he could have had a second career in Bollywood.
Goyal joined the viral 80s trend on X, sharing an AI-generated version of himself in full vintage film-star mode.
In the image, Goyal is seen sporting a sharp grey suit paired with a crisp white shirt and aviator sunglasses. The photograph has been given the unmistakable look of an old 1980s portrait, complete with a sepia tint and grainy, slightly faded texture that makes it appear as though it has been pulled straight from an old photo album.

Sharing the picture, Goyal kept the caption simple and fun, “Vibing to the 80s trend.”

The trend has gone viral online as users turned to AI tools to imagine what they might have looked like if they had lived through the 1980s.
The generated pictures typically recreate the visual language of photographs from the era, muted colours, film grain, faded tones and retro styling, giving modern photographs a distinctly nostalgic feel.
The post has garnered more than 963k views, with social media users flooding the comments with reactions to his transformation. While some simply enjoyed the throwback aesthetic, several users had a rather enthusiastic suggestion for the minister, saying he deserves a debut on the silver screen.
The combination of the tailored suit, aviator sunglasses and old-school photograph effect appeared to remind users of the quintessential leading-man look associated with Hindi cinema of the 1980s.
Some reactions encouraged Goyal to make his Bollywood debut, turning a simple AI trend post into an impromptu casting call.
