A teenager has been arrested after allegedly pulling out a baton during an argument with another boy at Westfield Bondi Junction.

Police were called to the shopping centre on Monday afternoon to reports of a person potentially armed with a weapon.

The alleged incident involved two 14-year-olds and was reported about 4.15pm, a police spokesperson said.

“Officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attended and were told two teenage boys — both aged 14 — got into an argument, before one of the boys threatened the other with a weapon and ran from the scene,” the spokesperson said.

“No injuries were reported.

“Following a search of the area, the 14-year-old boy was arrested and a baton was seized.”

No charges have been laid and police are still investigating.

On a Bondi Junction community social media page, one woman said she heard sirens and saw two boys running and yelling near Mitre 10.

“After we came out of Mitre 10 we saw police had apprehend one of the teenagers and the other one looked like they were still running as police headed into the train station,” she said online.

A photo posted online shows five marked police cars at the entrance to clothing store Ksubi.

Another commenter said shoppers inside had at one point believed someone was armed with a knife.

In April 2024, six people were killed and 10 more were injured in a stabbing attack in the centre, before the attacker was shot and killed by police.
