Police have released CCTV footage as they search for two men over a shooting in Perth’s southern suburbs on Sunday morning.
Residents of Hamilton Hill were put into lockdown early on Sunday after a man was shot in the stomach in bushland near Owen Place.
Two men who are believed to be involved in the shooting remain on the run, but police say there is no risk to the public.
Police were called about 4.35am after a 37-year-old was allegedly shot by two men dressed in black clothing and wearing face masks.
Police and St John WA responded and provided emergency first aid to the victim.
Detective Brian Connelly, of the serious and organised crime division, said the shooting unfolded near the intersection of Yongka Road and Karda Way, before the victim and another man ran across Forrest Street towards Owen Place.
Connelly said a member of the public was alerted to the scene and provided emergency first aid.
“It was a very short incident, it was over within a matter of seconds,” he said.
The man rushed to Royal Perth Hospital in a serious but stable condition. He has since undergone surgery for his injuries and is recovering in hospital.
Connelly said offers believed the victim and his attackers were known to each other, and that there was no ongoing risk to the public.
“We strongly suspect that they were known to each other, and the person that shot the victim knew the victim,” he said.
“We’re confident in saying that it is a targeted attack at one individual, and we’re treating it as such.”
Police have since released CCTV from a nearby house showing the two men sought by police fleeing the area after the shooting.
Earlier in the morning, people were told to stay away from the Hamilton Hill area and residents were instructed to lock their doors and windows and remain inside.
Significant police resources were deployed to the scene and are conducting a thorough search of the area.
Connelly said there was no information to suggest the shooting was related to tobacco wars or outlaw motorcycle gangs.
Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti said the incident was “terrifying” for all those involved.
“It sounds terrifying the type of nature of what’s happened this morning … but we need to get to the bottom of it and we need to arrest those two that are on the run,” she said on Sunday.
Detectives want to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious vehicles or activity in the vicinity of Owen Place, or the surrounding bushland between 4am and 5am on Sunday.
