Princess Eugenie has revealed the name of her newborn daughter, announcing the newest member of the royal family as Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.

The royal baby, Princess Eugenie’s third child with her husband Jack Brooksbank, was born in Lisbon, Portugal, on August 3, weighing 6lb 9oz (2.98kg).

Princess Eugenie shared the news alongside new photographs of her daughter on Instagram, explaining the significance behind the carefully chosen name.

“Two weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we’ve had the most special, cosy and love-filled time.

“We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.

“Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her great-grandmother who we hold close in our hearts.

“Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home.

“Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.”

Adelaide joins Princess Eugenie and Jack’s two sons, August and Ernest, affectionately known as Augie and Ernie.

The name is understood to draw inspiration from both sides of the family’s connection to England and Portugal. Queen Adelaide, who lived from 1792 to 1849, was the wife of King William IV, while Maria Adelaide of Portugal provides another historical link.

Her middle name Elizabeth also pays tribute to Princess Eugenie’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The inspiration behind Annina is understood to be more personal to Princess Eugenie and Jack, although the couple has not publicly revealed the connection.

Adelaide’s arrival in Lisbon also makes her one of the relatively few members of the British royal family to have been born overseas.

Princess Eugenie and Jack have established strong ties to Portugal and have a home in the country, making Adelaide’s name and birthplace a nod to the two countries the family now calls home.
