India’s P. V. Sindhu made a winning start to her Indonesian Open campaign, overcoming Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan in straight games to book her place in the Round of 16 on Tuesday. The former world champion prevailed 25-23, 21-16 in a contest that tested her composure despite the scoreline suggesting a comfortable victory.
Sindhu appeared firmly in control of the opening game and looked set to close it out with ease before a penalty for delaying the restart allowed Busanan back into the contest. The Thai shuttler capitalised on the momentum shift and erased Sindhu’s advantage, forcing a tense finish.

However, whenever Busanan threatened to gain a foothold, Sindhu responded with timely winners and greater consistency from the baseline. The Indian eventually wrestled back control of the opener before carrying that momentum into the second game to seal the match and set up a potentially daunting clash against world No. 1 An Se-young, who defeated her in the Singapore Open quarterfinals last week.
