Actor Radhikka Madan recently spoke out against the relentless scrutiny women face over their appearance, expressing solidarity with Katrina Kaif, who recently faced body-shaming over her postpartum weight gain. Drawing from her own experience, Radhikka recalled being criticised for her weight despite repeatedly trying to meet the industry’s expectations of how a leading lady should look.
Recalling how she gained 15 kg for Pataakha and subsequently lost weight while shooting for Shiddat and Angrezi Medium, Radhikka said she was told she was “too fat” to become a heroine. The actor continued losing weight while working on back-to-back projects until it began affecting her health, prompting her to take a break.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, she said, “I had gained 15 kgs for Pataakha, and I was losing that weight through Shiddat and Angrezi Medium. I was told that I was ‘too fat. Heroine kaise banegi ye’.(How will she become an actor?) I kept losing weight and shooting back-to-back, and fully became like bones. It started affecting my health, so I took a break.”
The experience eventually made Radhikka question why she was trying so hard to satisfy people whose expectations kept changing. She recalled being labelled too fat at one point and too thin at another, realising that there was no way to please everyone. The actor said she eventually shifted her focus from achieving a particular body size to prioritising her health.
“You don’t know what insecurity they [critiques] are coming from. But I have that security of knowing that now, I am chasing health,” she added.
The actor acknowledged that ignoring online criticism is easier said than done, particularly for young girls who often seek validation on social media. She pointed out that society continues to promote a narrow idea of the “perfect woman”, placing immense pressure on girls to conform to specific beauty standards from an early age.
Meanwhile, on the work front, the actor was last seen in the Netflix anthology, Lust Stories 3. Madan’s segment was directed by Shakun Batra, where she featured alongside Ali Fazal.
