Police said the main accused, who is employed as a senior section engineer with the Indian Railways, was arrested on Saturday morning after remaining absconding since the registration of the FIR.
The complainant told the police that she married his son in November 2023. She alleged that her family spent around Rs 55 lakh on the wedding.
On the very first night after the wedding, the woman’s two sisters-in-law allegedly forced her to consume alcohol and smoke a cigarette. When she resisted, they tried to strangle her, causing her health to deteriorate, per the complainant’s account.
The woman further claimed that her husband and sisters-in-law regularly hosted parties at the house with their friends. When she raised objections over the incessant partying before her father-in-law, he allegedly dismissed her concerns by saying that it was the norm in elite circles.
She later went to her parents’ home, but returned to her matrimonial house in April 2024. However, after returning there, she was once again forced to consume liquor, she said in her complaint.
While she was intoxicated, her father-in-law allegedly raped her. She has claimed that she was held captive for three days by her husband and in-laws before she eventually managed to call the police.
After receiving the call, the cops arrived at the scene and rescued her. The police initially invoked sections pertaining to molestation against the main accused.
However, after the investigators allegedly found strong evidence against him, the provision related to rape was added to the FIR. The man was caught by the police on the basis of inputs provided by informants.
