Superstar Rajinikanth spent an hour talking about Dorothy with director Karthik Subbaraj, praising the film in such detail that the filmmaker was left on cloud nine. For Subbaraj, who has never hidden his admiration for the superstar, the appreciation was especially meaningful. The director shared pictures from their meeting, along with Rajinikanth’s reaction to his latest film.

“Thalaivaaaaa. Fantastic. Beautiful. Mindblowing!” Subbaraj wrote, revealing that Rajinikanth had loved Dorothy and discussed every aspect of it. The actor-director conversation ended with a line that clearly stayed with him: “Intha Karthik Subbaraja thaan thedittu irunthen (This is the Karthik Subbaraj I was looking for). Can’t ask for more,” the filmmaker added, saying he would remember the conversation forever.

What is Dorothy about?

Written and directed by Subbaraj, Dorothy stars Keerthy Suresh alongside Sananth and Rishikanth. The latter two play Subbu and Karthi, friends who grow up surrounded by toxic masculinity, caste prejudice and violence. Their outlook begins to shift when Dorothy challenges the beliefs they’ve taken for granted.

The film has received praise from several people in the industry, including Dhanush, Suriya, Mani Ratnam and Upendra, adding to its positive response since release.

Dorothy also marks a major milestone for composer Ilaiyaraaja: it is his 1,540th film as a music director. The film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, with cinematography by S Thirunavukkarasu, editing by Ganesh Siva and choreography by Sherif M.
