Yash is stepping into the world of Ramayana as Ravana, and the makers have offered a fresh glimpse of his transformation on the occasion of Dussehra. Titled Rise of Asura in Hindi, the newly unveiled musical unit showcases the actor in a commanding avatar as the epic gears up for its worldwide theatrical release on November 5. Advance bookings for the film have also opened across India.

The glimpse puts Ravana in focus, with Yash’s imposing appearance, intense expressions and powerful screen presence setting the tone for the character. The musical sequence offers a glimpse of how the ruler of Lanka has been envisioned for Nitesh Tiwari’s big-screen retelling of the Indian epic.

The one-minute-55-second video draws on Ravana’s devotion to Lord Shiva, featuring Yash in an intense performance set to the Shiv Tandav Stotram.

The sequence opens with Ravana cutting his palm with a dagger before applying a Tripund tilak to his forehead as he prepares for the ritual. After performing aarti before a massive idol of Lord Shiva, he breaks into the Tandav, bringing intensity and energy to the sequence.

As the Shiv Tandav Stotram builds in the background, Yash delivers a powerful performance, interspersed with montage shots that offer glimpses of Ravana’s imposing presence.

The musical track brings together prominent names from the Indian music industry. A R Rahman has composed the music, Dr Kumar Vishwas has penned the lyrics, and Vishal Dadlani has lent his voice to the Hindi version.

In Hindu mythology, the Tandav is the cosmic dance associated with Lord Shiva, symbolising creation, preservation and destruction. Ravana, a devoted follower of Shiva, is also associated with the Shiva Tandav Stotram, a hymn celebrated for its rhythmic intensity and praise of the deity.

Through the musical unit, the makers bring together Ravana’s devotion, strength and commanding persona, presenting him as a formidable figure in the epic’s retelling. Yash, known for his larger-than-life screen presence, takes on one of Indian mythology’s most recognisable characters in the ambitious project.

The timing of the reveal is significant, given Dussehra’s association with Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana. In Ramayana, Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Ram, while Yash portrays Ravana, bringing the two stars together in a cinematic adaptation of the epic that has been part of India’s cultural imagination for generations.

The film directed by Nitesh Tiwari has been declared tax-free in West Bengal by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Based on the Indian epic, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The film also stars Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, with a sprawling ensemble bringing the mythological story to the big screen.

Ramayana will release in theatres on November 5.
