Rebecca Romijn has described Sir Patrick Stewart as “positively delicious, hilarious [and] naughty” in a heartfelt tribute.

The 53-year-old actress has, like the late legend, appeared in both the X-Men and Star Trek franchises, and she is “grateful” to have “been in his orbit” over the years.

She said in an Instagram video: “I feel so grateful to have known him for the last 25 years, and to have been in his orbit … both as a fellow mutant and as a fellow member of Starfleet.

“He was positively delicious, hilarious, naughty, incredible sense of humour, and that booming voice of his that always spoke to the very back of the room, as every classically trained Shakespearean great needs to master, has always been an inspiration.

“I send my condolences to his family, and I’ll miss my friend dearly. Rest in peace, Patrick.”

Rebecca and Sir Patrick appeared together in 2000’s X-Men, as well as its 2003 sequel X2 and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand.

Although their paths didn’t cross in Star Trek, she was part of the same franchise after playing Una Chin-Riley in Discovery and Strange New Worlds.

Wil Wheaton, who played Wesley Crusher alongside Sir Patrick in Star Trek: The Next Generation, paid his own simple but sweet tribute to his late castmate.

He wrote on Instagram: “Goodspeed, Captain.”

Their co-star Jonathan Scott Frakes (William Riker) added on his own post: “Rest in peace, my friend.”

LeVar Burton, another Star Trek: The Next Generation alum, described Sir Patrick as “family”.

The actor, who played Geordi La Forge in the beloved series, wrote: “He was family. There is no other context in which to hold him that makes sense.

“I am lucky to have known and loved so many of the facets of a soul so rich in talent and generous of heart.

“Of all the dames and knights I’ve known, he was deep down the silliest.”

Sir Patrick appeared as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek franchise, and he will posthumously be seen reprising his X-Men role of Professor Charles Xavier in Avengers: Doomsday.

His family confirmed that he passed away at his home in Los Angeles.

The statement read: “We announce with great sorrow the passing of Sir Patrick Stewart yesterday at his home in Los Angeles, in the loving care of his beloved wife Sunny, following a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy Body dementia.

“He has been held in the warm embrace of family and friends, surrounded by live music, prayers, tears, laughter and the kind of profound emotion that only he could inspire after a lifetime of devotion to all of us.

“We will forever cherish the peaceful ease and reflection on his face, an enduring reminder of his invincible grace.”
