Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 17 5G in India, succeeding last year’s Redmi 15. And if you noticed something odd there, you’re not alone. Instead of launching a Redmi 16, the company skipped straight to the Redmi 17. The new smartphone ships with a large 7,900mAh battery, Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset and a 50-megapixel camera. Although the device has already been available in select global markets since early August, in India, it will go on sale from 10th September.

To keep the lights on, the Redmi 17 5G packs a 7,900mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging. It also supports wired reverse charging, so the phone can be used to charge compatible accessories and other devices.

For photography, the Redmi 17 5G has a 50-megapixel AI dual rear camera. Camera features include Night Mode, Portrait Mode, HDR and Document Mode. There is also an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls, with Portrait and Night modes.
