BJP MLA Ratna Debnath, the mother of the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder victim, has expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of the investigation and alleged that corruption in West Bengal’s medical colleges has continued despite a change in government, news agency Press Trust of India reported.
The Panihati legislator said she would approach Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to seek justice for her daughter and action over alleged corruption in medical colleges.

“Even though there has been a change in government, the same people are still around. Corruption has not come down,” Debnath told reporters on Sunday, according to PTI.
Questioning the Central Bureau of Investigation’s handling of the rape-murder case, Debnath said her family had never sought an investigation by the central agency and alleged that it had failed to make progress. “If they cannot do the job, they should step aside,” she said.
The victim’s parents have repeatedly voiced dissatisfaction with the investigation, saying that those they believe were involved in the crime have not yet been brought to justice.
The case was transferred to the CBI following an order by the Calcutta High Court, which took up the matter on its own.
Debnath also claimed that she had received several files related to alleged corruption in different medical colleges and wanted the allegations to be investigated. “I will take up the matter with the chief minister,” she told PTI.
Debnath had joined the BJP, saying she believed it would be difficult to secure justice for her daughter without a change in government. She later won the Panihati Assembly seat in the 2026 election.
Debnath has now said she will pursue both her demand for justice in the RG Kar Hospital case and an investigation into alleged corruption in medical colleges with the chief minister.
