Rishikesh Police have arrested three people, including gang leader Jagjeet alias Jagga, in a crackdown on organised crime involving allegations of intimidation, assault, extortion and blackmail. Police have registered a case against four accused, while raids are underway to trace the fourth suspect.

GANG USED INTIMIDATION IN DISPUTES

According to police, Jagjeet alias Jagga ran an organised gang in the Rishikesh area along with his associates. The group allegedly intervened in land and family disputes, intimidated those involved and attempted to forcibly settle matters on its own terms.

Police said the gang was also involved in extortion and blackmail, including threatening to circulate private photographs and videos. The accused is also alleged to have trespassed into homes, assaulted and abused residents, and issued death threats.

The activities of the group had created an atmosphere of fear in the area, with residents hesitant to lodge complaints or pursue legal action against them, police said.

11 CRIMINAL CASES REGISTERED SINCE 2016

Police records show that 11 serious criminal cases were registered against Jagjeet alias Jagga and his associates between 2016 and 2026.

Citing their continued involvement in criminal activities and the climate of fear created among local residents, police initiated action following directions from the Dehradun SSP.

After approval from the competent court on the basis of a police report, a case was registered at Rishikesh Kotwali police station as Case No. 405/2026 under relevant provisions of the Act.

THREE ARRESTED, FOURTH ACCUSED ON THE RUN

Police subsequently arrested Jagjeet alias Jagga and his two associates, Pranav alias Raghav Batra and Deepesh Kumar.

Ravi Gupta, the fourth accused named in the case, remains at large. Police teams are conducting raids at suspected hideouts to trace and arrest him.

Police said the arrested accused already faced multiple cases involving allegations of assault, intimidation, extortion, blackmail and other criminal activities.

‘KING OF UTTARAKHAND’ SIGNBOARD RECOVERED

Acting on information provided by Jagjeet alias Jagga following his arrest, police recovered a signboard from his home bearing the inscription, “KING OF Uttarakhand”.

According to police, the signboard was used by the accused to project dominance and instil fear among members of the public.

The arrest has also raised questions over the timing of police action, given that Jagga had been facing criminal cases since 2016 and had been living in Rishikesh while making videos that went viral. Police action in the case is continuing, with efforts underway to arrest the remaining accused and complete further legal proceedings.
