Rosie O’Donnell has apologised for calling Wynonna Judd a “Trump supporter”.

The 64-year-old comedian has issued an apology on social media after making assumptions about the country music icon’s political views following a performance at Mar-a-Lago in 2023.

On Wednesday (08.10.26), Rosie wrote on Instagram: “I was wrong to assume Wy was a Trump supporter just because she performed for him – but as she told me she has sung for seven presidents on both sides of the aisle.

“My apologies here publicly (as I first made them privately) #friendship – he’s touring her new album now – go see her SING like no one else on earth #wynonnajudd (sic)”

However, a representative for Wynonna, 62, has clarified that she “did not perform for Trump”, and he wasn’t in attendance at the unrelated event.

They added to Entertainment Weekly: “You know what they say about the word assume.”

Although Wynonna has performed for seven presidents on both sides of the US political spectrum, the rep explaining that Donald Trump isn’t one of them.

Rosie, who is a vocal critic of the US President, has since edited her Instagram post, which now begins: “I was wrong to assume Wy was a Trump supporter just because she performed at marlargo. (sic)”

Her original comments came on The Tangle podcast back in August.

She said at the time: “Now, I am friends with Wynonna Judd, who I love very much, and I’ve known her for many, many years.

“And she is a supporter of Trump. And somehow, we never bring it up. I give her a grace in a way.

“She’s had so much in her life with her mom taking her own life and just the complicated nature of her upbringing.

“And I really love her, and I care about her, and, for some reason, I’m able to put that aside when we interact.”

However, Wynonna was “in shock” over the former View star’s comments.

Wynonna insisted her pal had “100 percent” made an assumption about her political beliefs, and added to People magazine: “I’m in shock, just so you know.

“I’ve never spoken to her about politics in my life. She doesn’t know anything about my stuff. I’m an independent.”

The No One Else On Earth singer insisted she is “not angry” about the situation, just confused, and stressed she makes a point not to “discuss” politics with anyone.

She added: “I don’t know where it came [from]. It’s complete assumption.

“I heard it and I went, ‘What the…?’ I don’t ever remember talking to her about this, so she’s just assuming.’ I just don’t want drama. So if there’s going to be drama [about it], I’m like, ‘Oh for c***’s sake, there’s so much going on right now in the world. Can we just love each other?’”

Rosie, who moved to Ireland after Donald Trump’s re-election, explained that she had assumed her friend’s political views based in part on her having performed at Mar-a-Lago in 2023.

She said in a statement: “I just thought as she has performed at Mar-a-Lago that she was [a Trump supporter]. I apologise if I was wrong.”
