A junior doctor had admitted to installing hidden toilet cameras to secretly record hundreds of colleagues across three Melbourne hospitals.

Ryan Cho, 29, was stood down by the Austin Hospital last year after staff discovered a phone in a mesh bag recording video in a staff toilet on July 3.

After the incident was reported to police, investigators located three hours of footage on the phone capturing Cho setting up the device before five others used the bathroom.

Police later laid more than 900 charges after thousands of intimate images and videos were located on electronic devices at his house.

Previously, a court was told, investigators alleged Cho had categorised at least 460 women by name and hospital.

His offending occurred while he worked at the Austin Hospital in Heidelberg, the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Cho returned to the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning and pleaded guilty to 13 offences, including stalking, producing intimate images and installing an optical surveillance device.

The court was told prosecutors had agreed to withdraw the bulk of the charges after condensing hundreds of victims into “rolled-up” charges.

Cho was released on bail in August last year after his parents, who had flown over from Singapore, vowed to support their son to follow his bail conditions and receive psychological assistance.

He is next listed to appear in the County Court of Victoria on November 23 for a three-day pre-sentence hearing where victims of his offending will be able to provide statements detailing the impact of his crimes.

Cho has been barred by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency from practising medicine.
