Salma Hayek has become a grandmother for the first time – with the Frida star revealing she has already given the newest François in her extended family her own affectionate nickname of “Panchito”.

The 59-year-old actress shared her delight after her stepson François Pinault Jr. and his wife Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck welcomed their first child, a son named François.

Salma, who has been married to François-Henri Pinault since 2009, announced her new family role on Instagram with footage showing her holding the baby and talking to him in Spanish.

Salma wrote: “We are blessed to welcome the fourth living generation of Francois’.

“Although I will call him Panchito. He seems to love it, and I cannot love him more.”

The name continues a family tradition, with the newborn becoming another François in the Pinault family.

Salma could be seen cradling her grandson in the social media footage as he appeared to laugh while she spoke to him.

Lara has also shared photographs documenting her first weeks as a mother, including pictures of herself lying beside her son on a picnic blanket and cradling the newborn.

Other images showed François feeding his son from a bottle and changing his diaper.

Lara wrote: “my husband (the world’s coolest françois)… and our son ( the world’s cutest François)… our first month as parents.”

Lara had announced her engagement to François in March after the pair had been dating for about a year. The couple have not publicly disclosed when they married.

The arrival expands Salma’s already large blended family.

She and François-Henri share daughter Valentina Paloma Pinault, while François-Henri is also the father of Mathilde Pinault, François and Augustin James Evangelista from previous relationships.

Salma has previously spoken about considering all four of the children part of her family after initially hoping to have several biological children herself.

Speaking to Red in 2017, Salma said: “I’ve had that yearning, that longing, and that pain. I always wanted to have a lot of children, and I was not able to. My body, as a miracle, had one.

“The huge blessing I’ve had is that my husband has three other children. So I have four. And they are all so different.”

The new family milestone comes as Salma is also preparing for the US theatrical release of Without Blood, Angelina Jolie’s adaptation of Alessandro Baricco’s novel.

The film, directed and produced by Angelina, stars Salma alongside Demián Bichir and Juan Minujín, and is scheduled to reach cinemas on September 18.

Salma plays Nina in the drama, which examines trauma, revenge and reconciliation following an unspecified conflict.

The project reunites her with Angelina after they appeared together in Marvel’s Eternals, in which Salma played the immortal Ajak and Angelina portrayed Thena.

Angelina recently praised Salma’s performance in the film while discussing the project and its themes of trauma and healing.

Without Blood also involved Angelina’s sons Maddox Jolie-Pitt and Pax Jolie-Pitt behind the scenes.

Salma remains particularly associated with her portrayal of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo in the 2002 biographical drama Frida, which she also produced.

The performance made her the first Mexican actor nominated for the Academy Award for best actress and also brought nominations at the Golden Globes, Baftas and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Her Hollywood breakthrough had come earlier through films including Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn and Dogma.

Salma’s subsequent credits have included Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Grown Ups, House of Gucci and Magic Mike’s Last Dance, while she voiced Kitty Softpaws in Puss in Boots and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Salma also played Ajak in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Eternals, which became the highest-grossing live-action film of her career.
