Sam Pang takes home Gold as Robert Irwin shines: Full list of winners at the 2026 Logie Awards

Sam Pang may have handed the reins over to Robert Irwin for the 66th TV Week Logie Awards, but those watching at home clearly missed the former host up on The Star stage.

First was Have You Been Paying Attention?’s best comedy entertainment program victory, which was one of three Logies taken home by Network 10 tonight. Well, four counting Pang’s Gold Logie victory, which, technically, also added to Seven (The Front Bar) and the ABC’s (Ground Up) tallies – no wonder he’s the most popular person on Australian television. But how does he feel about that honour?

“It’s been a weird life, like all I wanted to do was I just try to be funny,” Pang said backstage after joking with the media that it’s not his family he celebrates with first – it’s the press pack lying in wait.

“It’s just very, very weird… I grew up watching the Logies… I never thought I was gonna be on television, let alone win anything, like Have You Been Paying Attention? won a Logie, and now to win gold. I’m lost for words.”

The 66th TV Week Logie Awards was a night of milestones: Pang is just the second none-white person to take home the Gold Logie, a decade after Waleed Aly won for his work on The Project. Deborah Mailman, meanwhile, was inducted into the Hall of Fame, becoming the first Indigenous person to receive the honour – and she does not want to be the last.

“I’d love to see more blackfellas take that same recognition,” Mailman said backstage, statuette in-hand and big grin on her face.

“Because the landscape’s changed, right? Significantly. So it’s trying to get our dramas, our comedies, our stories out there, muscling in on what’s so packed in the streaming services and stuff, it’s getting audiences back to Australian stories. So it’s up to us too to make sure we’re telling those stories really well.”

Australian stories were front-and-centre at the event, with the national broadcaster taking home the most gongs of the night – eight (if you don’t count Pang’s Gold Logie). Streamers Netflix, Paramount+ and Disney+ went home empty-handed, and Binge’s only gong was for best lead actor in a Drama, awarded posthumously to the late Sam Neill for The Twelve.

The ABC’s domination comes as it faces a particular time of turmoil, with sacked Four Corners reporter Mahmood Fazal not even the most recent scandal to hit Aunty. That honour can go to an episode of Race Around the World, which saw the broadcaster issue an apology to Gina Rinehart over a sketch from contestant Kate McGuinness.

Of that, television legend Andrew Denton – who was the third and final Hall of Fame inductee of the night, after A Country Practice – said backstage “somebody may have overstepped. They’re going to learn from that, but that’s what it’s about. If you haven’t made a mistake, you’re not trying.”

He also made a point of his love for the ABC in his acceptance speech, publicly pledging: “To national broadcasters: if you ever need somebody to man barricades, if they come and try to shut you down, I’m your man.”

But there were moments of levity in the broadcast, with 22-year-old host Irwin shining from lights up to curtain down. Starting with an Oscars-worthy opening number à la his recent turn on Dancing with the Stars US, what followed was a surprisingly biting opening monologue, where no one – not Dave Hughes, Karl Stefanovic, and not even Irwin’s former show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! – was safe.

Pang may have taken home the gold, but Irwin – who did win Bert Newton award for most popular presenter – was also a big winner of the night. He did, after all, succeed at what was seemingly an impossible mission: to make free-to-air cool enough for the TikTok generation to tune in.
