Satluj director Honey Trehan reacted with a message of hope after his film was taken down from OTT platform just two days after its release. Sharing the streaming platform’s statement on Instagram Stories, the filmmaker said he accepted ‘God’s will’. His reaction came after the platform announced that the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer would remain unavailable in India until further notice.
Trehan’s long-delayed film Satluj, earlier titled Panjab 95, was released uncut on ZEE5 on Friday after years of uncertainty. However, the film was removed from the platform on Sunday, leaving fans surprised just days after its release.

Reacting to the development, Trehan shared ZEE5’s official statement on his Instagram Stories and added a brief message in Punjabi: “Tera bhana meetha lage (God’s will seems sweet) (sic).”
Bhana is a Punjabi word that loosely translates to divine command or fate – something willed by God. He accompanied the message with a folded hands emoji.
Earlier on Sunday, ZEE5 confirmed that the film had been taken down in India.
“In light of the current developments, ‘Satluj‘ will be unavailable in India until further notice. We remain committed to exploring every appropriate avenue through due process to bring the film back to our audiences at the earliest opportunity. We are deeply grateful to every viewer who chose to subscribe, watch and champion the film. Your love and support have meant a great deal to us and to everyone who brought this story to life. At ZEE5, we stand firmly by ‘Satluj‘ and the creative vision behind it. We believe powerful storytelling has the ability to inspire, endure and leave a lasting impact (sic),” the streaming platform said in a statement.
The film stars Diljit Dosanjh as late human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who investigated the cremation of thousands of unidentified bodies in Punjab between 1984 and 1994. The subject matter made the film one of the most talked-about and controversial projects in recent years, with its release itself being delayed for a long time.
Diljit also reacted to the film’s removal, taking a philosophical approach by comparing the shadow ban to Khalra’s own disappearance and killing.
In real life, Khalra disappeared in 1995 after exposing the alleged illegal cremation of unidentified bodies in Punjab. In 2005, four Punjab Police personnel were convicted for his abduction and murder and sentenced to seven years in prison. The Punjab and Haryana High Court later enhanced their sentence to life imprisonment.
Produced by Honey Trehan, Abhishek Chaubey and Ronnie Screwvala under the banners MacGuffin Pictures and RSVP, Satluj also features Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan in key roles.
