A nursing home is in shock after a volunteer allegedly attacked a staff member with a knife.
Around 9.30am on Friday, police were contacted with reports of an assault at an aged care facility in Seaton, near Adelaide.
Police allegedly confiscated a stanley knife from the scene at St Hilarion Residential Care and Nursing Home.
A female staff member in her 60s was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It is believed her injuries were to her neck and she is recovering in the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
An 85-year-old volunteer was arrested in relation to the incident.
He was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his neck and arms, which were described by authorities as “self-inflicted”.
No residents were injured.
Police said they “do not believe this was a random incident”.
Investigations are underway and no charges have been laid.
