Two people have died and a third person has been left seriously injured after two separate house fires in Western Sydney and the NSW South Coast.

The horror night for emergency services was punctuated by a house fire in the Sydney suburb of Villawood, where an elderly woman died but a second resident was able to escape.

Later, an elderly man died in a mobile home blaze near Nowra, while a second person was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Police were told a home on Tuncoee Road in Villawood was on fire just after 6pm on Wednesday, and arrived at the scene shortly after where they “located a house well alight”.

“Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze and assisted in the evacuation of two occupants inside the home,” police said.

“A woman in her 70s was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

“A short time later, officers were advised the woman had died in hospital.”

Another woman in her 50s was also treated for smoke inhalation, before she was taken to Liverpool Hospital “as a precaution”.

Police say the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Later in the evening, South Coast Police District police arrived at a tourist park on Greens Road in Greenwell Point, 15km east of Nowra, where they found a mobile home on fire.

“Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the fire before locating a body – believed to be that of an elderly man – inside the property. He is yet to be formally identified” police said.

“Another man was also treated at the scene for serious burns and smoke inhalation before being taken to hospital in a serious condition.”

The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and the investigation is ongoing.
