South-East Asia rarely settles on a single colour. This 12-night My Cruises holiday starts among the gardens and vibrant shopping streets of Singapore, passes Hindu cave temples near Kuala Lumpur and Penang’s pre-war terraces, then follows Java’s temple country to Bali. Two nights in a centrally located Singapore hotel come first. Then you board Regent’s Seven Seas Mariner for 10 nights, where every suite has a private balcony and ocean views, and each port comes with a choice of included tours.

The Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay, where the Supertrees light up twice nightly for Garden Rhapsody.

Save an evening for Gardens by the Bay. In the Supertree Grove, 12 of the Gardens’ 18 Supertrees rise up to 50 metres. Across the 18 structures, more than 162,900 bromeliads, orchids, ferns and flowering climbers form their living skins. Each night they light up for Garden Rhapsody, a free show of light and music. By day, walk the OCBC Skyway^ 22 metres above the grove, browse the streets of Little India and shop the luxury boutiques along Orchard Road, then take a table at Boat Quay on the Singapore River. On day three, your ship sets sail.

Blue and silver service

Seven Seas Mariner carries 704 guests, looked after by 459 crew. Your Deluxe Veranda Suite has floor-to-ceiling windows, a marble bathroom, a minibar restocked daily to your preferences and in-suite dining at any hour. Hungry? Dinner might be Continental cuisine at Compass Rose, decorated in blues and silvers and set with Versace tableware, modern French at Chartreuse, a steak at Prime 7 or Italian at Sette Mari, with fine wines included. Two sea days mid-voyage leave time for the pool deck, the putting green, a game of paddle tennis or a book from the library. It’s leisure your way.

Malaysia, three ways

Port Klang puts Kuala Lumpur within reach. At Batu Caves, a 43-metre golden statue of Lord Murugan stands at the foot of 272 steps painted red, yellow, blue and green, climbing towards Hindu shrines inside the limestone caves. Back in Kuala Lumpur, the Petronas Towers and Thean Hou Temple shift the palette again. Langkawi comes next, with beaches, caves and waterfalls, and clear water for snorkelling. Then Penang, where UNESCO-listed George Town is lined with an exceptional range of shophouses and townhouses shaped by centuries of trade and stories to tell.

Temples to Benoa

Java takes up the second half of the voyage. In Jakarta, visit Istiqlal Mosque, the Dutch colonial buildings of the Old Town and the food stalls of Glodok, or ride to the top of the National Monument for a view across the capital. Semarang is the gateway to UNESCO-listed Borobudur, one of the world’s great Buddhist monuments, and the Hindu temple complex of Prambanan. Surabaya follows, with its canals and colonial facades. The ship reaches Benoa on day 12 and stays until the next morning, leaving an evening for a Bali temple or a beach club before the flight home. It’s your night, fill it with colour.
