Fans have been left puzzled after news broke that a Grammy-nominated singer’s father passed away — but he continued posting online.
Addison Rae is a 25-year-old who first rose to prominence as an influencer on TikTok before making a splash in the music world with her debut album Addison in 2025.
In her early career, the young star frequently shared videos co-starring her mother Sheri Easterling and her now-estranged father Monty Lopez — with the parents both establishing a large online following.
Lopez took to social media on Monday, revealing to his 226,000 followers that he had been admitted to a Louisiana hospital.
“Third trip to the ER in two weeks — come on man,” the 50-year-old wrote online.
The businessman then shared several images showing his hospital ID bracelet and his arm connected to tubing inside a hospital bed
Just hours after the images were shared, a lengthy post announced that the singer’s father had sadly passed away.
“Monty Lopez will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his love for his family and friends, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life,” the online statement began.
“He is survived by his children, family members, and loved ones, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.”
The obituary statement had been shared to both Lopez’ X account in addition to his Snapchat story.
The announcement resulted in shock across Rae’s fanbase, who quickly expressed their sympathies for Rae and her family.
When fans went to Google the Diet Pepsi singer’s father, his Wikipedia summary said that he had died on August 3.
No media outlets had reported Lopez’ death, with the only information provided being from his online obituary and the Wikipedia update.
As fans processed the sudden news, a new notification sparked even more confusion — Monty Lopez’ personal account had continued sharing to Instagram.
Hours after his obituary was posted, the 50-year-old’s account shared a Spotify link to Drake song Shabang.
The sudden post spurred discourse among Addison’s fanbase, who were left baffled over the saga.

“How do you post to Instagram from beyond the grave?” one fan queried.
“Is he dead or not? This has me so confused,” another wrote.
“It has to be (Monty) posting that — no way a family member who’s mourning would think to share a Drake song on his story?!” a third commenter questioned.
A post was also shared to his TikTok story, saying: “A man who never feels appreciated eventually stops trying.”
After Lopez’ posts, the Wikipedia update listing the father-of-four as deceased had also been suddenly removed.
The obituary post on his X account remains online.
Rae and her family are yet to address the confusion.
PerthNow understands US media outlets such as TMZ have been in contact with the family in an effort to verify the claims.

The Aquamarine singer has notably had a complex relationship with her father.
Their relationship publicly soured after reports that Lopez had cheated on her mother Sheri Easterling in 2022 led to the star unfollowing her father on all social media platforms.
Lopez remarried in 2025 following a whirlwind two-week romance with Kaitlyn Robbins, with the 50-year-old revealing he had not told Addison Rae of his new wife.
“I didn’t tell her or anyone, I just followed my heart,” he told TMZ at the time.
The 50-year-old has since filed to divorce, with court records stating the couple separated one month after tying the knot.
Lopez asked a judge to demand Robbins cease social media posts about his Grammy-nominated daughter, according to TMZ.
The Louisiana native has also faced recent criminal battles, with the social media star arrested last July after allegedly exposing himself in public.
He was also arrested in April and charged with intent to distribute marijuana.
The 50-year-old has plead not guilty to both charges.
Amid his criminal trials, the father is also facing a civil suit after his ex-wife Easterling filed for full custody of their youngest child in February.
TMZ reported that the custody petition alleged incidents of abuse commited by Lopez dating back to 2005.
