Bollywood playback singer Kanika Kapoor has announced her separation from businessman Gautam Hathiramani, whom she married in London in 2022. The 48-year-old shared the news on social media and requested privacy. The announcement came after she deleted their wedding pictures from Instagram.
In an interview, Kapoor clarified that no third person was involved in their separation. She also dismissed claims that their marriage fell apart because she did not want to move to Lagos, where Hathiramani is based for work.

In her official statement, Kapoor said, “After much thought and consideration, my husband and I are going our separate ways. I am grateful for the time we shared and wish him well for the future. I sincerely ask for kindness and respect for our privacy as we move forward.”
Friends of Hathiramani, cited by Mumbai Mirror, said he was devastated by the break-up. They said he had known from the beginning that Kapoor was free-spirited and frequently travelled around the world for performances, sometimes flying between St Tropez, London and Mumbai in a single week.
According to the report, the relationship between a successful singer with a demanding travel schedule and a businessman unable to leave Lagos because of work commitments led to disappointment and differing expectations.
Speaking to the news portal, Kapoor said, “I have not found anybody else and to the best of my knowledge, neither has Gautam. For me, this is my second time for a divorce and that brings its own grief and disappointment.”
She added, “To say that I did not want to stay in Lagos is not true and it’s so typical – that when a marriage falls apart, the first person to be blamed is the woman – which is unfair. Only two people in a marriage know what exactly transpires between them.”
Kapoor said she was in Mumbai and working on three projects. “I have three children that I need to take care of. I hope to keep my future interactions with Gautam amicable as I am not an aggressive person. I think he would wish the same,” she said.
From friendship to marriage
Kapoor and Hathiramani had been close friends for several years before their relationship developed into love. They married in an intimate ceremony attended by family members and close friends at a five-star hotel in London on May 20, 2022.
She was previously married to London-based general practitioner Dr Jaspreet Singh Chandok. They divorced in 2012 and have three children, Aayana, Samara and Yuvraj. Kapoor, who is from Lucknow and frequently visits her parents in India, raised the children as a single mother.
She found success with the 2012 single Jugni Ji, recorded with Dr Zeus, and rose to wider fame with Baby Doll in 2014. Her other songs include Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan, Tukur Tukur, Genda Phool and Oo Bolega Ya Oo Oo Bolega.
