Mumbai Police have arrested six people and detained a minor in connection with a violent attack on two men in Chembur that left both victims seriously injured, officials said.

The incident took place around 12:15 a.m. on June 15 in the Chembur area, which falls under the jurisdiction of Govandi Police Station. According to police, Sachin Khadtare and Firoz alias Raju Khan had stepped out for a walk after dinner when they were allegedly ambushed by a group of unidentified assailants armed with sharp weapons.

The attackers allegedly assaulted the two men, inflicting serious injuries before fleeing the scene.

Following the attack, Govandi Police registered a case under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act and the Mumbai Police Act, and launched an intensive investigation.

Given the seriousness of the case, police formed seven special teams to track down those involved. Investigators used technical intelligence and evidence collected from the scene to identify the suspects.

Police said six accused have been arrested so far, while a juvenile has been taken into custody. Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.

According to the daughter of injured victim Raju Khan, his condition remains critical and he is undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Sion Hospital.

She alleged that her father had been actively creating awareness among residents about housing benefits available under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme and helping people understand their rights regarding homes allotted in place of slum dwellings. She claimed that his activities had upset certain individuals, though police have not officially confirmed any motive behind the attack.

Authorities said they are investigating all possible angles and are working to establish the circumstances that led to the assault.
