Six people have been rescued after a building collapsed in the Indian capital New Delhi, news agency ANI reports citing the police.
It was not immediately clear how many people were inside the premises at the time of the incident.
Fire officer Abhilash Malik said about 30 to 40 people remained trapped in the rubble, the Associated Press reported.
MP Anil Sharma said some people had been rescued and several others trapped inside were making phone calls for help while rescuers remained in contact with them.
Police, firefighters and crews from India’s disaster response agency searched the rubble as earthmovers cleared debris to help rescuers reach those trapped inside.
At least two people were hospitalised in critical condition, officials said.
Located in southwest New Delhi, the building was being used as guest accommodation and comprised a basement along with five upper floors.
According to the report, repair work was underway in the basement when the structure collapsed.
“All agencies are working in co-ordination, with every effort focused on the safe rescue,” New Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said in a post on X.
