Queensland will host the Socceroos’ homecoming series against Brazil in September.

The first of the two friendlies will be at Brisbane’s Lang Park on September 25, and the second at Townsville on September 29.

Premier David Crisafulli said the state was eager to host the Socceroos’ first home games after the World Cup.

“Traditionally these games after a World Cup happen in Sydney or Melbourne, and we’re making a push to be the events capital of the country and things like this make a really big difference,” he told ABC’s 612 program.

It is the second coup for the Brisbane venue, after the state government announced the Wallabies and All Blacks would play a Bledisloe Cup Test at Lang Park on Anzac Day next year

It will be the first Anzac Day match in the 123-year history between the teams. Lang Park will host the fixtures in 2027, 2029 and 2031.

Mr Crisafulli said events like these helped build up the state’s reputation.

“I do feel we’re getting momentum,” he said.

“I think people are looking at what they used to call north of the border and saying, ‘things are happening’.

“We’ve got challenges but we’ve also got big opportunities, and I see events [as] a big part of that.”
