“Defence will provide further updates when possible,” the department said.

NewsWire understands two of the injured soldiers are in critical condition.

Northern Territory Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said Defence would be holding a press conference later on Tuesday.

“Of course, our focus and priority has been on supporting the injured, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the young man who’s lost his life in this tragic event,” she said.

NT Police had dispatched officers to the training facility to assist Defence in their investigation and on behalf of the coroner.
