Several developments were reported across South Asia on Sunday, including continuing search operations in Nepal nearly four weeks after deadly flash floods, fresh action involving jailed former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan and his family, and diplomatic moves by Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The updates also included plans by Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for his maiden address at the UN General Assembly, a visit by Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to Tehran, a medical check-up for Imran Khan at Adiala jail, and a new environment diplomacy section set up by Nepal’s foreign ministry.

In Nepal, search operations continued for around 6,000 people who are still unaccounted for nearly four weeks after devastating flash floods that have killed more than 1,400 people.
In Pakistan, authorities detained Aleema Khan, the sister of Imran Khan, on Sunday ahead of a planned protest by his party next week.
In Bangladesh, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to deliver his maiden UN General Assembly address in Bangla on September 24. According to a media report, he will highlight the Rohingya crisis, climate change and his government’s democratic agenda.
Also in Pakistan, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was scheduled to visit Tehran on Sunday for talks with Iranian leaders and officials. According to media reports, the visit comes amid escalated tension in West Asia involving the US-Iran conflict and fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis. Iran has said the talks will focus on bilateral ties.
Separately, Pakistan’s jailed former premier Imran Khan underwent a medical check-up at Adiala jail amid concerns about his health, a media report said on Saturday.
In another development from Nepal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it has set up an environment diplomacy section to institutionalise and strengthen diplomatic efforts on climate change and environmental issues.
Overall, the day saw rescue efforts continue in flood-hit Nepal, fresh political and health-related developments around Imran Khan in Pakistan, diplomatic outreach by Bangladesh and Pakistan, and a new climate-focused initiative by Nepal’s foreign ministry.
