DMK President MK Stalin on Saturday asserted that the ruling Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) government was surviving with the backing of parties that had once been part of the DMK-led alliance, and vowed that his party would soon bring the regime to an end.
Addressing party workers at an event where several AIADMK leaders joined the DMK, Stalin alleged that the government was dependent on the support of parties that were once part of the DMK-led alliance and had secured Assembly seats under that front.

“The current government is functioning at the mercy of our former alliance partners. Those parties wanted the DMK to win. Their leaders informed me at several places that they intended to join TVK. I told them it was their democratic right to take their own decision. At that time, I did not want a situation that would lead to President’s Rule or BJP rule in the state,” Stalin said.
He maintained that the DMK had refrained from taking steps that could destabilise the government because it did not want political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu.
However, Stalin said the situation had now changed and called on party cadres to work towards ending the TVK government. He expressed confidence that the DMK would soon return to power in the state.
