Steve-O took a lot of drugs in preparation for a stunt in Jackass: The Movie.

The 52-year-old comedian has revealed that he went to extreme lengths in order to prepare for one particular stunt in Jackass: The Movie, the 2002 reality slapstick comedy film that also starred Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Chris Pontius, Dave England, Ryan Dunn, Wee Man, Preston Lacy and Danger Ehren.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Steve-O shared: “I spent a day doing cocaine, and then I spent the next day still awake pole vaulting all over the place, making terrible decisions.

“I just thought, ‘Man, wouldn’t it be great if I took a pole vault to the beach and the bushes and a gross river and just launched myself into all kinds of stuff?'”

Steve-O recalled Jeff Tremaine, the franchise director, being a big fan of the pole vault idea.

Steve-O said: “He set it up for me to train with the pole vaulting team at UCLA. And I really diligently trained. I worked as hard as I could, and I never got any good pole vaulting.

Steve-O got sober between the second and third Jackass films, and that changed his approach to making the famously wild and chaotic movies.

The comedian recalled adopting a different approach to his stunts in Jackass 3D, the 2010 film.

He said: “Going into this third Jackass movie, I’ve survived too much. Now I’m clean and sober. I’m not taking any crazy risks.

“As long as I don’t have to worry about being killed or paralysed, I’ll do whatever and I’ll never back out. And this Electric Avenue one really put that one to the test.

“I remember just thinking, ‘Ugh.’ I knew that I couldn’t be paralysed or killed, but I didn’t wanna do it. But ultimately, I honoured my word and I got through it.”

Steve-O sees the reaction of his castmates as the perfect gauge for his stunts.

Steve-O – who has returned to the franchise to star in Jackass: Best and Last – said: “You can tell when a Jackass bit works because what we call the peanut gallery, all the guys gathered around watching, their reaction is the barometer for how well we did.

“When everybody’s excited like that and laughing and cheering, that’s when you know you got something really good.”
