Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday likened the BJP to Ravan and the Congress to Ram, urging voters in Goa to support the Congress in the 2027 Assembly elections. He also expressed confidence that his party would return to power in the coastal state, saying he sensed the same optimism that preceded the Congress victory in Telangana in 2023.

Addressing the Goy Rakhonn Yatra in Goa on October 11, Revanth Reddy appealed to voters to back the Congress’s Hand symbol and cautioned them against voting for smaller parties and independent candidates, arguing that such votes would benefit the BJP.

“The story in Indian politics has a Ram and a Ravan. Ravan is BJP and Ram is Congress. If you want to defeat Ravan, you have to support Ram,” he said.

Revanth Reddy also targeted the BJP government in Goa over the alleged drug menace and land deals, accusing it of encouraging a property mafia and failing to address unemployment among young people.

“Goa has become a den of drugs,” he said, alleging that a network of drug smugglers had been uncovered in the state by a team sent from Telangana. He challenged Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to explain why the drug trade continued despite the presence of enforcement agencies, including the police, the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The Telangana Chief Minister also accused the BJP government of allowing Goa’s land to be sold or transferred to others, using the name “Property Sawant” to criticise Pramod Sawant over alleged land-related concerns.

He warned voters against allowing the BJP to secure a third consecutive term in Goa, saying repeated electoral mistakes could have serious consequences for the state.

‘Rahul Gandhi leading fight against BJP’

Revanth Reddy said he was attending the event as a representative of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was required in Delhi to lead the party’s fight against the BJP-led government.

He praised Rahul Gandhi for what he described as efforts to unite people against the BJP, while accusing the Narendra Modi government of undermining democracy and misusing institutions.

He also alleged that the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise was being used to remove voters opposed to the BJP, particularly Dalits, Adivasis and minorities. These allegations were part of his broader criticism of the Centre.

Calling on Congress workers and supporters in Goa to back Rahul Gandhi, Revanth Reddy said the party’s political fight would begin in Goa and extend to Delhi.

‘Kerala is with Congress, Goa next, then Delhi’

Drawing a parallel with the monsoon’s progression across the country, Revanth Reddy said the Congress’s political momentum would move from Kerala to Goa and eventually to Delhi.

“Kerala is now with Congress, and I am confident Goa will be with us in 2027. After that, the Indian flag will be unfurled in Delhi,” he said, adding that he hoped Rahul Gandhi would become the Prime Minister.

Revanth Reddy also congratulated Goa Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar for organising the Goy Rakhonn Yatra.

He reiterated his confidence that the Congress would form the government in Goa in 2027.
