An MBA student residing at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) campus hostel has accused a Swiggy food delivery worker of sexually inappropriate behaviour and obscene gestures while she went to collect an online food order.
The Vastrapur police in Ahmedabad arrested the accused, identified as Nipam Thakkar, within hours of receiving the complaint.
The incident reportedly took place on August 15 at the IIM-A campus in the Vastrapur area. According to the student’s complaint, she had ordered food from a restaurant through Swiggy while she was in her hostel room.

DELIVERY WORKER MADE OBSCENE GESTURES
The student said she initially received a call from an unknown number but did not answer it. She later received another call from the same number, with the caller identifying himself as the delivery worker and informing her that he had arrived with her order.
According to the complaint, the delivery worker initially asked the student to come to the second floor. She instead asked him to come to the first floor, where she met him near the staircase.
The student said that the accused made inappropriate comments about her appearance, including calling her a “beautiful angel”. She further claimed that while handing over the food order and asking for the OTP, the accused used the parcel to cover his private parts.
The complaint stated that when the student attempted to collect the order after providing the OTP, she noticed that the accused’s trousers were unzipped. She objected to his behaviour, following which he left the spot.
STUDENT INFORMS FRIENDS, IIM MANAGEMENT
Alarmed by the incident, the student returned to her room and informed her friends, who subsequently reached her hostel room. The matter was later brought to the attention of IIM Ahmedabad authorities.
The student then approached the Vastrapur police station along with friends and the member-secretary of the institute’s Internal Complaints Committee and filed a complaint.
Police subsequently registered a case and began an investigation using technical surveillance, including the mobile number and delivery details associated with the order.
ACCUSED ARRESTED WITHIN HOURS
Police arrested Nipam Thakkar, a resident of Ahmedabad’s Wadaj area, in connection with the complaint. During questioning, police said, the accused admitted to misbehaving with a female student on the IIM campus.
Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the incident and examine the allegations made in the complaint. The case has also raised concerns over the safety and security of students residing on the institute campus.
