Sydneysiders have woken up to a bitterly cold start to their Sunday as a cold front hits the east coast of Australia.

The Harbour City has copped winter like conditions, with temperatures dropping by 10C in just a single day.

Sydney will climb from a low of just 11C to a top of 19C, despite summer being just a few weeks away.

But it will feel far colder for Sydneysiders with Weatherzone’s “feels like” temperature sitting at just 4C as of 7.30am.

The cold weather isn’t expected to last long, warming up again by Tuesday.

Sydney was not alone in having a cooler start to its Sunday morning.

The cooler temperatures have also reached Melbourne and Canberra with the mercury only set to rise to 17C.

For the nation’s capital, temperature plunged to just 1C at the start of Sunday.

Overnight temperatures plunged to about 0C, with snow flurries, showers and hail sweeping across alpine regions in Victoria, southern NSW, as well as high peaks in Tasmania, according to Weatherzone.

Cold front brings “dramatic” weekend temperature changes

BOM Meteorologist David Crock said there was a “dramatic change” between Saturday and Sunday for much of the country.

“As the cold front sweeps up the NSW coast throughout Saturday it’s going to bring a pretty dramatic change,” Mr Crock said.

“Temperatures are nudging 30c in Sydney (on Saturday) but when we see that change it will move in with some really strong, gusty southerly winds.

“A sudden drop in temperature of maybe 10 degrees or so will take place, and there are showers and thunderstorms possible as well.”

News24 senior meteorologist Rob Sharpe said it was a cold change from a fairly nice start to the weekend.

“Only 19C, windy with a few showers,” he said.

”So it was chalk and cheese Saturday to Sunday through that Sydney area.”

More storms predicted for Queenslanders on Sunday

Meanwhile, Queenslanders should brace for thunderstorms, especially those living rurally.

“It’s now much colder across southeastern parts of the country, courtesy of the change,” Mr Sharpe said.

“The continuous journey up into southern Queensland through Sunday brings showers for the New South Wales coast and stormy weather for parts of Queensland and the outback.

”But for southeast Queensland, only the chance of a brief shower on Sunday.”
