People living in Sydney’s southwest have been left shaken today after a 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck the area.
As on Friday afternoon, just under 400 people had submitted reports of having felt the impact to the government website, with people describing feeling as though somebody had crashed into their home.
The earthquake’s epicentre is reported as having been close to Douglas Park, south of Sydney, with a depth of three kilometres.
According to the Geoscience Australia website, the quake struck shortly after 1pm AEST, near Appin.
The aftermath saw homeowners describe the moment shifting tectonic plates interrupted their Friday afternoons.
David Baker, who runs a Facebook page chronicling his camping trips, was watching television in his 5th floor unit n Campbelltown when the quake hit.
“I’ve never felt anything quite like it before,” he said. “It lasted for about 10 seconds and felt like the whole block of units was shaking.
“My wife immediately said it must be an earthquake.
“Thankfully, nothing in the unit was damaged but it was definitely quite a shake.”
Others posted their experiences on social media.
“I thought someone crashed into my front room, everything shook,” one person wrote.
“I felt like a big gust of wind shook my house and realise (sic) there ain’t no wind,” another added.
