Taylor Swift has reportedly stepped on to the Emmy campaign trail by making a rare appearance before awards voters to explain how her record-breaking Eras Tour became a source of “great escapism” for millions of fans.

The singer, 36, appeared alongside director Glenn Weiss at an intimate event at Ross House in Los Angeles on Wednesday as Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show competes for five Emmy awards. About 50 people attended the event, according to Deadline, with phones, cameras and press prohibited. The appearance came weeks after Taylor married Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, 36, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Discussing how Glenn captured the atmosphere surrounding the final Eras Tour concert, Taylor said at the event: “One of the things that I was so impressed by, and the needle Glenn threaded so effortlessly, is that the Eras Tour was such a phenomenon because of so many factors but one that I know that is really important is that it was a source of great escapism for the people who were there.”

Taylor added: “Glenn and I had conversations about ‘How do we preserve this experience?’ Because if you lose the feeling of relaxation and freedom for the fans there, then you’ve lost a huge element of what makes this concert experience so special.

“Glenn created a situation where the fans could be lost in the moment because of the rehearsals that he did with our dancers and me leading into the final show.”

The Television Academy has nominated the Disney+ film for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special and Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork for a Special. Glenn received the directing nomination, while Taylor is nominated as a producer and performer in the variety special category.

A victory would add another Emmy to Taylor’s awards collection.

She won Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media – Original Interactive Program in 2015 for AMEX Unstaged: Taylor Swift Experience.

The Eras Tour became the defining live project of Taylor’s career, encompassing songs from across albums including Fearless, Red, 1989, Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights and The Tortured Poets Department.

Speaking before the tour’s conclusion, Taylor said: “When all of this is over I am excited to regain some time and do the things I used to do that I’ve had to cut out.

“I used to have hobbies and a personality outside of this show. I can’t remember what they are. Every single day for the last six months I’ve been preparing for this day.

“I’ve been holding my breath for a year and eight months just hoping that we’d be safe we wouldn’t be injured, no harm would come to the tour. It’s overwhelming. I’m just feeling thankful.”

Taylor’s Emmy push also follows one of the biggest developments in her personal life, after she and Travis married at Madison Square Garden on July 3.

Their marriage was confirmed by Taylor’s representative, while comedian Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony.

Taylor’s younger brother Austin Swift was her man of honor and Travis’s brother Jason Kelce served as best man.

Stevie Nicks also performed during the celebrations.

Taylor and Travis have kept many details of the ceremony private and have not released a collection of wedding photographs.

Travis has since returned to football with the Chiefs and was seen wearing his wedding ring at the team’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams on August 15.

The wedding itself brought Midtown Manhattan to a standstill as hundreds of fans gathered outside Madison Square Garden.

Screens outside the arena displayed the message “JUSTandT MARRIED!”, while the Empire State Building was illuminated in light blue in recognition of the occasion.
