Fans of Bluey have been given a first look at the movie about the beloved blue heeler but not everyone is happy.
A 45 second teaser trailer for The Bluey Movie was screened in Anaheim, California at Disney’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on Saturday.
In it, bluey and Bingo can be seen playing Keepy-Uppy with a red balloon.
Bluey shouts “good one Bingo” as the balloon is punched into the air, to which Bingo replies “thanks Bluey”.
As the balloon falls again, the pair scream as they accidentally push the balloon forwards rather than upwards, and Bluey shouts “don’t let it touch the ground”.
The pair then race after the balloon but it hits the grass and the pair run away before it pops to reveal the film’s title.
A marked difference is the animation style, which appears to be more three-dimensional than that used on the Australian television series.
The new style has disappointed some fans, with one likening it to a “Temu Bluey”.
“Here to vote for the original animated style,” wrote one commenter on Instagram, which has received more than 7500 likes at the time of writing.
“Why did you change the animation style that made Bluey…Bluey,” asked one person.
Another added: “My kids said, ‘why did they do that? It doesn’t even look like them’.”
The beloved television show’s adaptation for the big screen is expected to hit cinemas on August 6, 2027 before being added to streaming service Disney+.
The Bluey Movie follows Bluey’s adventures with sister Bingo, Mum Chilli, and dad Bandit.
Melanie Zanetti and Dave McCormack will reprise their roles voicing the parents for the film adaptation.
On Saturday, producers of the film said it “takes place on an action-packed day when a big surprise changes everything for Bluey and her family”.
The movie will be written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm and produced by Ludo Studio, which makes the show, in collaboration with BBC Studios.
At the Californian fan event, the first poster for the film was released which featured the red balloon from the trailer.
There was also a surprise game of Keepy-Uppy for fans.
Available in more than 140 countries, Bluey, first released in 2018, is the number one show for children on CBeebies and Disney+ in the UK.
