In the Drishyam trilogy, the home is like a character in its own right. The North Goa home is where Ajay Devgn’s Vijay Salgaonkar lives with his wife and two daughters. It is where the first event that changes the course of their lives takes place — yup, that murder. It is also where Salgaonkar initially buries the body. The plot keeps coming back to this house, before returning to it once again for a banger of a climax.

Across all three parts of the Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran-starrer, the home is one of the few things that remains constant. With the Salgaonkar home back on screen in Drishyam: The Conclusion, releasing on October 2, let us take you inside the century-old villa in North Goa where the film was shot.

The home, tucked away in the village of Uccasim, has become something of a tourist spot and is now unofficially known as the ‘Drishyam movie house’. Instagram is flooded with photos and videos of people posing outside the iconic house that holds the Salgaonkar family’s secrets.

Just as shown in the film, the home is far from ornate. Its charm lies in its simplicity, Portuguese-style architecture and a hearty dose of greenery.

There are no grand interiors or dramatic details – just a spacious old villa, simple rooms, ageing furniture and a large garden around it. The blue-and-white exterior, red roof and arched windows give it the unmistakable look of an old Goan home.

“The rooms, old furniture and multiple sections of the sprawling bungalow have the comfortable clutter of a house that has genuinely been inhabited for generations,” notes a T2 Online report, whose reporter visited the bungalow.

The greenery around the property adds to its charm and makes it easy to see why the house has stayed so memorable. The dark grey-and-red staircase instantly brings back memories of several scenes from the film.

The paint on the walls has changed across the three films. In the first part, it was a light shade of yellow, whereas in the second and final parts, it was blue.

A caretaker maintains this private property, several news reports suggest. The entry inside the premises, however, appears to be restricted.

This home is not the only place in Goa that has movie fans chasing shooting locations. The Goa Police Headquarters in Panjim has also become a popular stop for tourists, with its striking yellow-and-white facade making it one of the most recognisable locations from the film.

Clearly, your North Goa itinerary now has one more stop: the Drishyam Movie House.
