The deceased, Akriti, had married Gaurav, son of Ramesh, around six months ago, according to the FIR filed by her brother Prabhat. WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE THE DEATH

According to the FIR, Gaurav and his family had demanded an additional car during the wedding itself. The demand allegedly led to a dispute between the two families when it was not fulfilled.

Akriti and Gaurav later entered into a court marriage at the Ghaziabad Registrar’s office on March 23, 2026.

The complaint alleges that sometime after the marriage, Gaurav began demanding Rs 30 lakh and a Scorpio-N from Akriti. Gaurav needed cash to repay his loan. Her family alleged that she was mentally and physically harassed when the demands were not met.

According to her family, Akriti had secretly contacted them and told them about the harassment. She also said that her in-laws threatened her and her family.

AKRITI CALLED FAMILY BEFORE FALLING FROM ROOF

According to her family, around 9 PM on September 7, Aakriti called to report that her husband Gaurav, father-in-law Ramesh, mother-in-law Saroj, and sisters-in-law were assaulting her and attempting to kill her.

The call ended shortly afterwards. According to the complaint, Gaurav then informed Akriti’s family that she had fallen from the roof and needed to be taken to hospital.

Her family reached the hospital, where Akriti was undergoing treatment. Doctors declared her dead on September 10, according to the complaint.

HUSBAND ARRESTED

Following a formal complaint from Akriti’s brother Prabhat, Muradnagar police registered a case against Gaurav, Ramesh, Saroj, Neha and Soni.

The accused have been booked under Dowry Prohibition Act.

The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of ACP Sunil Kumar. Police said that on September 12, acting on a tip-off, they arrested Gaurav from the Muradnagar area.

According to police, Gaurav admitted during questioning that he was resentful about not receiving dowry after the marriage. He acknowledged demanding Rs 30 lakh and a Scorpio-N vehicle and admitted to mentally and physically harassing his wife.

POLICE PROBE INTO CIRCUMSTANCES OF DEATH

The allegations surrounding Akriti’s fall from the roof are still under investigation. Police said the circumstances of the incident and the allegations of murder will be established only after the investigation is completed.

Further legal action will be based on the post-mortem report, evidence related to the incident and other facts that emerge during the probe.
