Actor-comedian Vir Das was at home when he learnt that his Netflix special Fool Volume had earned an International Emmy nomination. The news came with excitement, but also a sense of disbelief. For Das, who previously won the International Emmy for Landing, the latest recognition brings with it both the thrill of being acknowledged globally and the pressure that naturally follows a major win.

Das has already experienced the high of taking home an International Emmy. So, does returning to the awards with another nomination feel different this time? The comedian admits that it comes with a mix of excitement and pressure, but says he is consciously trying not to compare Fool Volume with Landing.
“Winning Landing was an incredibly special moment, and once you’ve experienced that, you understand how rare it is. So there is excitement, but there’s also a natural pressure not to repeat yourself. But I try not to think of the nomination as something I have to live up to. Landing had its own journey, and Fool Volume has its own voice. The best thing I can do is let the work stand on its own rather than constantly comparing it to what came before,” he said.
For the 47-year-old comedian, however, the significance of an International Emmy nomination has evolved with every recognition. Having experienced the awards journey more than once, Das says each nomination carries a different meaning, not just for him, but also for the people behind his work and the Indian stories being taken to a global audience.
“The first nomination felt surreal, the second felt like validation, and the third feels deeply personal. With every nomination, you become a little more aware of what it represents, not just for you, but for the people who made the show with you and for the kind of Indian storytelling we are taking to the world,” he said.
At the same time, Das says the excitement of an International Emmy nomination has not completely faded. If anything, the experience has taught him to pause and enjoy the recognition instead of immediately looking ahead to what comes next.
“The novelty never completely goes away. An International Emmy nomination is still a pretty extraordinary thing to wake up to. I think the difference now is that I’m able to enjoy the moment a little more rather than immediately wondering what comes next,” he added.
For Das, the nomination ultimately remains a celebration of the work rather than a measure of what comes next. He believes the most rewarding part is knowing that a deeply personal project managed to connect with audiences far beyond India.
“Ultimately, the nomination is a celebration. You make something because you believe in it, and then one day you find out that people on the other side of the world connected with it too. That’s the exciting part,” he added.
The comedian remembers his first reaction to the nomination as a combination of excitement and stunned disbelief. He was at home when he received the news, and, like most people, needed a moment to process what he had just heard.
“I was thrilled, and, honestly, a little stunned. There’s always a moment where you hear the words, but your brain takes a few seconds to actually process them,” Das recalled.
He said his immediate reaction was simply to question whether the news was real. But once the surprise settled, his thoughts quickly turned to the many people who contributed to the special.
For the Delhi Belly actor, an Emmy nomination is never solely an individual achievement. He points to the collective effort behind a comedy special, from its writing and performances to the production and post-production teams.
Meanwhile, Fool Volume has been nominated in the Comedy category at the 2026 International Emmy Awards.
Released in 2025, the special sees Das explore themes including foolishness, happiness, the evil eye and a bout of lost voice, blending personal storytelling with his signature social commentary.
Others nominated in the category include Division Palermo– Season 2 (Argentina), Man vs Baby (United Kingdom) and Old Dog (Spain).
