Two men and one teenager have been arrested while hiding out in regional NSW for the brutal killing of an innocent university student in western Sydney earlier this month.
On September 1, three individuals broke into a home in Glen Alpine at about 3.40am and shot Marco Tapia, 23, a biochemical engineering student at UTS, in what police have now confirmed was a case of mistaken identity.
Since the incident, two teenage boys who allegedly assisted with obtaining getaway vehicles and the weapon were arrested.
On Tuesday, detectives arrested a 16-year-old boy and two men aged 22 and 23, in Junee.
Police took all three to Wagga Wagga Police Station where they were each charged with murder, two counts of special aggravated break and enter, committing a serious indictable offence with a weapon, and possessing an unauthorised firearm.
The men were remanded in custody and are due to face court on Wednesday.
The 16-year-old was also remanded in custody and will appear at a children’s court on Wednesday.
Police will allege all three men entered the home and confronted Mr Tapia before he was shot dead.
