Three police officers have jumped into Adelaide’s River Torrens to save a man from drowning after he entered the water while fleeing police.
The 22-year-old man was struggling in the river and calling for help when officers rushed to his rescue early on Saturday morning.
Police were called to reports of a group of men fighting on Hindley St in Adelaide’s CBD about 5am.
While officers were speaking to those involved, one man ran from the scene and was briefly pursued before police lost sight of him.
Officers monitoring CCTV cameras in the area then spotted the man jumping into the River Torrens.
Police rushed to the river and found the man struggling in the water and calling for help.

Three officers jumped into the river and managed to reach the man, holding him above the water until other police arrived to help the group to safety.
The 22-year-old Blair Athol man was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.
His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
The three officers involved in the rescue were assessed by paramedics at the scene.
Investigations into the fight are ongoing. No charges have been laid.
