Selections based on a soft track.
Race 1
5. Avalon is a daughter of Maurice on debut after two barrier trials. She ran third in the latest of them at this track and has the advantage of barrier one. She should be able to take up a good position and take plenty of beating. 4. Southport won a Gosford barrier trial before resuming with a solid fourth at this track behind Declan and he should have benefited from that assignment. 3. See Diamond ran fifth in the same race Southport contested, but can improve on that performance. 7. I Am Hearts is also on debut and ran well when second in a recent trial at this track.
How to play it: Avalon each way.
Race 2
2. Divine Offering had a couple of trials before his debut at Canterbury, where he hit the line well along the inside to finish third behind The Machine Gun. He should have benefited from that run and the step up in distance looks like it will suit. 3. Short Sea ran a solid second on debut on the Kensington track and a repeat of that effort would have him right in the thick of things in this company. 4. Iminastate ran fifth behind Group 1 winner Tron Bolt at Rosehill before placing third at the same track last time out. He warrants respect. 7. Like An Eagle has had two starts in city grade and will find this an easier assignment.
How to play it: Divine Offering to win.
Race 3
2. Gondorff had two trials before debuting at this track earlier this month in a handy maiden. He was safely held in that event, but the experience is sure to have done him good. He’s drawn well here and a sharp improvement is on the cards. 6. Last Tour has been thereabouts in all four starts since resuming from a spell and a forward showing is on the cards again. 7. Proxima Centauri has failed to flatter in three starts but resumes after two trials and bears close watching. 3. Orange Tsunami was safely held when he resumed at Gosford but is capable of improvement.
How to play it: Gondorff to win.
Race 4
2. Onmalone started favourite when he resumed from a spell at this track and won in good style to break his maiden. The runner-up has since performed well again to frank the form. 5. Lady Pankhurst has been safely held in both runs back from a spell, but could lift enough to be a factor here. 8. Sapling has finished fourth in her latest two starts at Gosford and Hawkesbury and shouldn’t be taken lightly, while 6. Spiv disappointed at this track last time out but is worth another chance.
How to play it: Onmalone to win.
Race 5
1. Hellova Nature has been racing well with two straight wins at Kembla Grange and then at the Gold Coast. The apprentice claim will help here, and he can go on with the job from the good draw. 3. Koios has also won two on end, at Kembla Grange and Taree, and should prove hard to hold out while in his current form. 7. Totoka won in good style at this track when last produced and can go on with the job. 2. Debello is resuming and has won a trial leading into this.
How to play it: Hellove Nature to win.
Race 6
2. Apollo Ridge is first-up from a spell after a Scone trial win and won at this track before his break. He’s a winner of two from 12, with a further five placings, and can be expected to sprint well fresh here. 3. Indecisive won with ease at this track when he resumed from a spell. He will find this tougher from the wide barrier, but he looks to be going well enough to give it a shake. 6. Oceans One won at this track last October and resumes here after a third at Gosford in December. He’s had a trial to prepare for his return. 1. The Wolf has finished second in each of his past two starts and has claims again.
How to play it: Apollo Ridge each way.
Race 7
3. Fierceness broke his maiden in good style at Muswellbrook in April. He has since performed well with a fourth at this track, a midfield Newcastle effort and a last-start second at Newcastle. The step up to the 1600m should suit and he gets his chance to break through again. 4. Italus showed plenty of talent to win at Bathurst last time out in only his second career start. A genuine threat. 7. Master Of War has had five placings from nine starts and he enters this race after a last-start second at Hawkesbury when he fought on well after racing on the pace. 6. Matchsticks ran second at Canberra when resuming from a spell and backed that up with an eighth at this track.
Improvement is on the cards.
How to play it: Fierceness to win.
