Toxic box office Day 4: Yash’s film hits Rs 254 crore worldwide amid trolling

Actor Yash’s gangster drama, Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups, saw a 9.9% drop in its domestic nett earnings on Day 4, even as social media discourse and online trolling surrounding the film’s violent sequences, romantic tracks, and portrayal of its female characters gained traction. However, despite the polarised discussions and daily dip, the Geetu Mohandas directorial pushed its worldwide gross to Rs 254.75 crore on Saturday following a strong initial three-day run.

According to Sacnilk, the film earned an estimated Rs 24.50 crore nett in India on Day 4 from 17,612 shows across the country. With this, its four-day India nett collection has reached Rs 190.45 crore.

The film’s total India gross collection now stands at Rs 227.50 crore. On Friday, ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups’ had collected Rs 27.20 crore nett in India, making Saturday’s figure a 9.9% decline from the previous day.

Overseas, the film earned Rs 4 crore on Saturday. Its total overseas gross collection has now gone up to Rs 27.25 crore.

With the latest overseas addition, the film’s worldwide gross collection has reached Rs 254.75 crore. It had opened with an estimated Rs 101.10 crore nett in India on Day 1, followed by Rs 37.65 crore on Day 2 and Rs 27.20 crore on Day 3.

Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups also features actors Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria alongside Yash, Nayanthara and Kiara Advani.

The film released in theatres in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and English. It has also been in the news for its intimate scenes and for sequences that appear to show women in a not-so-favourable light through imagery and dialogue, while the CBFC cleared it with no cuts and awarded it an A certificate.

Kiara and Yash’s romantic track, Tabaahi, from the film received mixed reactions on social media with a section of viewers criticising the chemistry, while others having objections over the depiction of on-screen intimacy.

After the film’s release, fans were also divided over actor Rukmini Vasanth being trolled over an implied intimate sequence in Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups.
