Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is now almost at the finish line. And if you are planning to spend August 26 in a theatre with Yash’s latest film, there are a few things worth knowing before the lights go down.

Toxic runtime: How long is the film?

First things first: Toxic is not a short watch. The film has been certified with a runtime of 194.12 minutes, which works out to approximately 3 hours and 14 minutes.

So, if you are planning a theatre outing, factor in more than three hours for the film itself, apart from trailers and any interval time at your screening.

The runtime also gives some indication of the scale of the story Geetu Mohandas is attempting to tell, with the film spanning an expansive gangster narrative involving family, power, violence, loyalty and redemption.

Toxic certification: Is the film suitable for children?

Toxic has received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), meaning the film is restricted to adult audiences. The genre is action, crime, drama, and thriller.

The film was certified by the CBFC’s Bengaluru regional office on August 13, 2026. It underwent minor modifications during the certification process, including the muting or replacement of two Kannada phrases and corresponding subtitle changes.

There were no major cuts reported as part of the certification.

So, if you were wondering whether Toxic is a film for a family outing with younger children, the answer is no. The ‘A’ certificate means only adults can watch it in theatres.

Toxic release date: When does Yash’s film release?

Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups will release worldwide in theatres on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

The film has had a long road to the big screen. It was previously scheduled for other release dates, including March 19 and June 4, before being postponed.

The delays were linked, among other factors, to release-date clashes and the logistics involved in positioning the film for a wider international release.

Toxic has been shot simultaneously in Kannada and English. It will also be available in dubbed or subtitled versions in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam, giving the film a pan-India theatrical footprint.

The film will also be screened in premium formats, including IMAX. Advance bookings opened around August 21.

Toxic cast: Who stars in the film?

At the centre of Toxic is Yash, who takes on a dual role in the film. The actor plays Raya, the father, and Rumi, also known as ‘Ticket’, the son. The two characters form an important part of the film’s emotional and ideological conflict.

The principal cast includes:

  • Yash in a dual role as Raya (father) and Rumi / “Ticket” (son).
  • Kiara Advani as Nadia (Rumi/Ticket’s mother).
  • Nayanthara as Ganga (Raya’s sister).
  • Huma Qureshi as Elizabeth.
  • Tara Sutaria as Rebecca.
  • Rukmini Vasanth as Mellisa.

The film also features international actors including Kyle Paul, Beatriz Taufenbach, Surjith Gopinath, Benedict Garrett and Tetiana Gaidar, among others.

What is Toxic about?

The story is set against the backdrop of post-independence Goa, moving through a period shaped by the transition from colonial rule and the changing social and criminal landscape that followed.

At its heart is a gangster story, but Toxic is positioned as more than a straightforward tale of violence and power. The film explores loyalty, morality, jealousy, love and redemption through characters who operate in morally complicated spaces.

Yash’s dual roles as father and son add another layer to the narrative. Their relationship is tied to the film’s larger conflict over power, ideology and identity.

The official premise describes a world of brutal action and conflicted characters, with the story examining the cost of power and the possibility of redemption.

That makes Toxic less about a conventional hero-versus-villain equation and more about the people caught inside a world where the lines between the two are rarely clean.

Who directed Toxic?

Toxic is directed by Geetu Mohandas, who also co-wrote the film with Yash. Mohandas, known for films including Liar’s Dice, brings a darker, more atmospheric sensibility to what is being mounted as a large-scale gangster drama. The film is jointly produced by Venkat K Narayana under KVN Productions and Yash through Monster Mind Creations.

With a reported budget of around Rs 500–600 crore, Toxic is among the most expensive Indian films to date and represents a significant expansion in scale for Yash following KGF: Chapter 2.

Toxic crew: Who worked behind the camera?

The film’s music includes songs by Vishal Mishra, Ravi Basrur, Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami, with Ravi Basrur also composing the background score.

The action department includes international stunt coordinator JJ Perry, whose credits include films such as John Wick and Fast & Furious, alongside Indian action choreographers Anbariv and others.

The scale of the production is also reflected in its shooting schedule. Principal photography began in August 2024 and continued until October 2025, with the film shot across locations including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Goa, Thoothukudi and Jaipur.

Toxic marks Yash’s major return to the big screen after the success of KGF: Chapter 2. Now, after months of anticipation and several changes to its release calendar, it is finally ready to meet its audience.
