New Delhi: The BJP sought to downplay the INDIA bloc’s rally at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, November 1, claiming that the public response was underwhelming and that very few people actually showed up despite the Opposition’s tall claims of huge turnout.
Addressing the media, party spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “We have been observing this rally organised by the INDI bloc since morning and listening closely to Rahul Gandhi’s speech. But in the end, it felt like a complete waste of time.”
“Rahul Gandhi had been saying 10 lakh voters will attend the rally, and what actually happened?”, he sought to know.
“Jhande anek (many flags) aur phir bhi 10 lakh log nahi ho paaye,” he pointed out, claiming that the INDIA bloc used trick photography to get the nation into believing that there was a huge turnout at the rally.
He said tricks don’t take people far. One cannot become the Prime Minister by trickery. PM, he said, stands for Paseena (sweat) and Mehnat (hard work).
Responding to another of Rahul Gandhi’s allegations, Patra said that the Congress leader insists that the 2024 elections were illegal and that’s giving Gyanesh Kumar sleepless nights. However, he said, “Gyanesh Kumar was not even there during the 2024 elections. He became the Election Commissioner in 2025. If the 2024 election was illegal, then Rahul Gandhi is also an illegal Leader of Opposition, and all his MPs are illegal.
‘Move court if election was illegal’
He said that in such a case, the Opposition leader should move the court. “Show me a single petition filed by Rahul Gandhi, the Congress or any INDIA bloc party challenging the 2024 election. You cannot declare an election illegal two and a half years later at Ramlila Maidan.”
Likening Gandhi to the heirs of Mughal emperors, Patra said, “Rahul Gandhi ji, this India does not belong to your Abbu Jaan. This India belongs to the people of India. Even a tea seller can become Prime Minister and an ordinary person can become Home Minister in this democracy. And that is what bothers you.”
On Gandhi’s reference to Shiv Ji Ki Baraat, Patra said, “One who doesn’t know the difference between Shiv Ji ki Baraat and Tandav, you are neither Shiv nor is the chaos you want to plunge India into any Shiv Ji Ki Baraat. This is not Shiv Ji’s Baraat. This is a spectacle of chaos.”
“The country will respond to you,” Patra warned.
