A truckie is facing criminal charges a year on from a crash that killed a teenage boy.
About 8.30am on October 10 last year, 15-year-old Thom Hosking was hit by a truck on High St in Bendigo, north of Melbourne.
The youngster was given urgent emergency care but died at the scene.
Now, police have laid charges against the driver, a 36-year-old Sebastian man.
He has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving in a dangerous manner, careless driving and failing to give way at a pedestrian crossing.
The man was granted bail and was due to appear at Bendigo Magistrates Court on Friday.
Following the youngster’s death, his family issued a statement, saying they were heartbroken.
They described him as gentle, warm and loving, “our peacemaker and our navigator”.
The incident happened as Thom was on his way to school, close to the intersection of High St and Myrtle St.
A member of the public attempted CPR, but he could not be revived.
He was due to start his first part-time job three days after his death and was set to play guitar in his schools production of Mamma Mia the musical.
“Thom had a lovely group of friends and was admired by his teacher at Girton,” his family tribute added.
