The ruling TVK on Thursday condemned the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, calling it “inherently anti-democratic and harmful” to the principles of equality established by B R Ambedkar, the Press Trust of India reported.
TVK leader and School Education Minister A Rajmohan said the party had opposed the revision process since its inception and would continue to use legal and public platforms to protect voting rights.

Rajmohan was speaking at a protest organised by the INDIA bloc in Chennai. The protesters demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged manipulation of electoral rolls during the SIR exercise.
According to PTI, Rajmohan said the TVK had challenged the implementation of the SIR, including its rollout in states such as Bihar, in the Supreme Court.
He alleged that the revision had systematically removed millions of eligible voters from electoral rolls. He claimed that the deletions particularly affected people below the age of 30, women, the poor, economically weaker sections and marginalised communities.
Rajmohan said such targeted deletions compromised transparency and undermined the integrity of elections. Referring to Ambedkar’s principles, he said democracy extended beyond the mechanics of governance.
“Democracy is not merely a form of government; it is a way of living that guarantees equal voting rights and dignity for every single citizen,” the minister said, arguing that the SIR process violated these constitutional values.
He urged democratic forces and political leaders to unite against processes that eroded public rights and institutional transparency. He also said the TVK would continue its campaign through legal action, official reports and public forums.
“The SIR process is inherently anti-democratic and harmful to the principles of equality established by B R Ambedkar. To combat this, our party has filed a case in the Supreme Court of India and has consistently used public forums and reports to advocate against it,” Rajmohan said.
The TVK reiterated its opposition to the electoral roll revision and said it would continue efforts to safeguard voting rights and uphold democratic principles.
