Two children have died and five other children and a woman are in hospital after a car rolled near Bacchus Marsh, west of Melbourne.
A seven-year-old girl died at the scene despite CPR being performed, police said. An 11-year-old boy died overnight in hospital, police said on Wednesday morning.
Five more children were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and a 34-year-old woman was in hospital for observation.
Two specialist Air Ambulance helicopter crews, intensive paramedic crews and advanced life support crews went to the accident scene, Ambulance Victoria said.
Police said emergency services were called to the scene near the Nerowie and Parwan-Exford roads intersection just before 4pm.
Major collision investigation unit detectives are investigating.
In May 2023, 13 children were taken to hospital after a truck hit a school bus carrying 45 primary school students on the same road. Seven children were left with serious injuries, including one 10-year-old who lost her arm.
That crash occurred less than a kilometre from the primary school on the suburban border between Exford and Eynesbury, about 40 kilometres west of Melbourne’s CBD.
The driver of the truck was cleared of all charges by a jury in the County Court in 2025.
